Claudelands Cockoo's vs Waikato Unicol B
Anticipating this to be a very tough match, given the cockoo's current record in the league, the Unicol boys started strongly giving nothing away at the back. The Cockoo's defence got found out after numerous high balls were left to bounce and Lee "Lily" Warin eventually made them pay scoring at the near post after dinking over the right back and nipping past the last defender. The rest of the first half was a stalemate with Unicol dominating and giving away nothing, but unable to add another goal.
The second half started in the same fashion as the first had finished, and after a spell of pressure Unicol were awarded a penalty for a handball in the box. Unfortunately Rory had his nicely hit penalty saved by the keeper, who guessed the right way. After a solid defensive effort the home team ref (after having a great first half) decided to f**k us over and gave the Cockoo's an undeserved penalty after their midfielder threw Jordan "I'm so damn fast" McKinnon on the ground then proceeded to trip over him... With the same midfielder slotting the penalty past Tim "I'm a goalie" Nesdale. With that the momentum in the game swayed over to the home team and while the Unicol boys continued to play well, threatening another goal, the decisions started mounting up against them. In the end a cheap freekick was given away just inside Unicol's defensive half and after it was put out for a corner the cockoo's managed to make one piece of nice football on the day and put away a header into the top corner after the initial corner wasn't cleared out far enough..
Final Score 2-1, and a fairly disappointed Unicol B team.
